OUR PROGRAM

The Lucille Lortel Theatre is launching the Youth Playwriting Fellowship to support diverse young writers and create an awareness of playwriting as a career. The opportunities provided by this program will encourage New York City public high school students to become the next generation of playwrights.

WHAT TO SUBMIT

Students will submit a play that is:

  • An original one-act play.
  • Approximately 10 minutes in length.
 

 

ELIGIBILITY*

The Fellowship is open to any high school student who is currently enrolled in and attending public high school in one of the five boroughs of New York City at the time of entry.

ENTRY PERIOD

Begins: October 17, 2019 at 12:01 AM (EST)

Ends: December 11, 2019 at 11:59 PM (EST).


FELLOWSHIPS*

Seven Fellows will be selected: one from each of the five New York City boroughs plus two additional Fellows, one from District 75 and one from District 79 schools.

The seven Fellows will each receive:

  1. A professional staged reading of the Fellow’s play at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.
  2. Publication of the Fellow’s play.
  3. Invitation to a “Special Evening on Broadway” that will include a dinner, tickets to a Broadway show, and a post-show special event.
  4. Complimentary theatre tickets to the Lucille Lortel Theatre for one season.
